How cat time works
Sunrise is cat 6:00 and sunset is cat 18:00, and day and night are each split into 12 hours, so a cat hour changes length with the seasons. The parts of the day are fixed in cat time: dawn hunt from cat 5 to 7, nap from 7 to 17, dusk hunt from 17 to 19, and night patrol from 19 to 5. See About Neko Clock for more.
Using the app
- Changing your location
- On the Now screen, tap the place name at the top right (at first, the city of your device's time zone), then choose “Use Current Location” or a city. An approximate location is enough. If you choose your current location, the app updates it each time you open it.
- Logging a cat you met
- Tap “Met a Cat” at the bottom of the Now screen. A record opens with the time you tapped. Choose how you met, the cat's name, the place and a note, then tap “Record”. Tap “Cancel” or swipe the sheet down, and nothing is saved.
- Fixing the time of a record, or deleting it
- On the Records tab, tap a record to open “Edit Record”. Change the time and tap “Save” (it can't be set to a future time). To delete it, tap “Delete Record” at the bottom.
- Adding a meeting you forgot to log
- Tap “+” at the top right of the Records tab and pick the date and time. You can also pick a date and time on the Look Up tab and tap “Met a Cat at This Time”.
- Renaming or deleting a cat or a place
- Open them from the cat and place icons at the top right of the Records tab. Deleting a name keeps your records. Only the name is removed from them.
- “When You Usually Meet” doesn't show anything
- It appears once you have three or more records from the last 60 days within about 30 minutes of each other in cat time. Records marked “Fed” aren't counted, because people decide when cats are fed.
- “Fed” records don't appear in the By Cat Time charts
- They're left out for the same reason. The number left out is shown below the charts. They still count toward “Times You've Met Cats”.
Notifications
- Turning on notifications
- On the Now screen, turn on “Notify Me” in the “When You Usually Meet” section. Choose what to be notified for (your usual time, the dawn hunt, the dusk hunt) and how early.
- Notifications don't arrive
- Check that notifications for Neko Clock are allowed in your device settings. If you only chose your usual time, there are no notifications until a usual time appears.
- On Android, notifications arrive early
- Without “Alarms & reminders”, Android may delay notifications, so Neko Clock schedules them early to avoid being late (up to about an hour early). Tap “Allow” under “Notify Me” to grant it, and notifications arrive right on time.
Widget
- Adding the widget
- iPhone and iPad: Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, tap “Edit” at the top left,
then “Add Widget”, and choose Neko Clock.
Android: Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen, tap “Widgets”, and choose Neko Clock (the steps vary a little by device). - The widget says “Open the app to show cat time.”
- The widget runs on 30 days of sunrise and sunset times that the app hands it. If you haven't opened the app for a while, you'll see this message. Open the app once to refresh it. After you change your location, opening the app also moves the widget to the new place.
- The iPhone widget has no “Met a Cat” button
- The button needs iOS 17 or later. On iOS 16, tapping the widget opens the app.
- On Android, the widget updates a little late when the part of the day changes
- Android sometimes delays widget updates. Allowing “Alarms & reminders” shortens the delay.
Remove ads and restoring a purchase
- Removing ads
- Buy “Remove ads” at the bottom of the Now screen. It's a one-time purchase, and the ads stay off for good.
- Ads came back after changing phones or reinstalling
- Tap “Restore purchase” under “Remove ads”, signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you bought it with. On Android, it may also come back on its own when you open the app.
- Changing your ad consent
- In regions such as the EU, “Ad privacy settings” appears under “Remove ads”. You can choose again there.
Records and new phones
- Moving records to a new phone
- There are no accounts and no sync. Your records live only on your device. If you restore a new phone from a backup of the old one, your records may come with it (a feature of iOS and Android).
- Deleting the app
- Your records, cat names and place names are deleted too. A “Remove ads” purchase stays with the store, so you can restore it after reinstalling.

Tell us your device model, its OS version, and what you did on which screen when it happened. A screenshot helps too.
